Cultural heritage is a non-renewable resource; cultural heritage is an inexhaustible source of information and inspiration...these are some of the messages that the exhi- bition“The Golden Architecture of Pirot“ by Mirko Stanimirovic delivers.
Despite of his main inclination for contemporary art, since Mirko is not only an archi- tect but also a theoretician, a photographer and a painter, he does not stop returning to the cultural heritage. For his work, he always chooses the town of Pirot and its surroundings, regularly returning to this area to observe and contemplate about heritage wealth, which has been left to us, as well as often problematic concern of society’s approach towards heritage.
“The golden architecture of Pirot“ presents 20 objects for different purpose, status of preservation and condition in which they are found. Applied visual contrast points out the complexity of the problem, which is in the author’s focus, and which is ac- complished by a combined technique. Black and white photography in a format of documentary, printed on the canvas, with additional interventions done to the colours and golden structure has been used on the blue background. Since Mirko was laureate for the award “Architect Aleksandar Radovic“, and the Foundation is committed to giving permanent support to promotion of creators who deal with cultural heritage, the decision to enrol the exhibition into the programme “Creative Europe Forum”seems completely applicable.
The focus of this year’s event are projects and models of organizing in culture, that incite cooperation and connection, and the fact that on this project precisely there are numerous contestants from different levels (“Desk Creative Europe Serbia” - the Ministry of culture and information of the Republic of Serbia,“Architect Aleksandar Radovic” Foundation, Nis, Gallery “Cedomir Krstic“ Pirot, City of Pirot, Euroregion Nisava, Pirot, New Art Scene, Pirot and Cluster of Urban Planning, Nis ) as well as a large number of prominent experts and scientists from all over the world, gathered around one idea, we consider that we have successfully accomplished the task.
Therefore, I am using this opportunity to thank them all, and express great pleasure that everything has ben accomplished smoothly and successfully, thanks to our ex- cellent understanding of the joint mission and enthusiasm, which gives hope and opens the door for other opportunities for further cooperation.
Opening of the exhibition is scheduled for May 31st 2019 at the Gallery “Cedomir Krstic“ in Pirot.
